PLANS FOR AFTER GRADUATION:

Right now my plans for graduation haven't developed much. First I plan on going on my senior trip. I’ve decided that I’m either going to go on a cruise to the Eastern or Western Caribbean or take a ship down to Atlantis Resort and a ship back up. I’m still trying to get people to go with me so if anyone is interested let me know. =]

After my trip, I plan to go to LSU for my basic college studies, maybe majoring in biology or physics. What I really want to do is go to a college in Florida to major in Marine Biology with a minor in either Art or Psychology or possibly Photography. Most likely art since that is what I’m good at.

After College I am going to try to get a job in Southern Florida or in the Islands. Anywhere tropical would be nice though. I want to be a field researcher, who actually gets to go in the water and discover things. Or work in a Marine Life center. I really want to work with dolphins and the sea turtles.

Hopefully I’ll be able to start a relationship after high school and eventually start a family, but that’s not looking too well for the immediate future.

Okay that’s good enough.
Ciao.

What to write about? hmmm. well prom is this weekend and i'm already tired of my prom date. he won't stop annoying me. i think i finally go my point out that i want him to leave me alone, be cause i like someone else, but thats enough about that.
So its thursday and i just found out that my date has yet to pay his prom dues which means that he can NOT go, unless he pays by TODAY! This is very dissapointing. I spent all this week going back and forth with two groups trying to decide who to go with and all and now my date can't even go! i guess he didn't think we were going to the dance. =/

I have the powderpuff game coming up, that is where the girls play football and the guys cheer. FUNNY STUFF! =] Our game is on the 28th and we are not prepared. The seniors are going to kick our butts if we don't get serious. Everyone just plays around and doesn't actually try it is SO annoying!

That is pretty much all that is going on right now maybe i'll have more to add later. =]

Social Security. [8]

What happens to social security once it is taken out of a person’s paycheck? Is it given to that person who has worked for it? NO! The money is put into a fund for all persons disabled, unemployed and otherwise supported by the federal government. Now the “baby boomers”, as they are called, will have wiped out the present generation’s social security fund. How does one fix this? We could consider this alternative: Those who work for a living should have the social security money that is taken out of their check put into their own special account that can be accessed after they have retired.

People do not exactly, or directly, receive the social security money that is taken from their paychecks. From one’s check the government takes a certain percent and it goes to a fund that is used to help pay for those that are retired, disabled, or those that qualify for social security and are just unemployed. The fund also helps pay for a portion of a person’s health care. In the end money that is taken from one’s paycheck really is not returned to one in the sense that most think. If social security survives past this generation, then each person who worked in the past will receive benefits which barely covers the cost of living. The number of checks each person will receive does not change by the amount of time that person spent working in the past, however, if something is not done soon then by the time the present teenage generation gets around to collecting their benefits there will be nothing left to receive.

There is a way the government can help prevent this depletion of social security. The government could create a fund for each person and when social security is taken from that person’s paycheck it would be put into that person’s fund, so when they retire their money is available for them to use, not for the government to give away to others. In the case of a disabled person the government should have a separate type of fund for them, the government should not have to take money from everyone else’s paychecks to help pay for any person who has not worked. If the government was to do this then that would preserve the “idea” of social security.

So if a person was to save their money while they work as well as having their own pension saved from their checks there would be no doubt they will be able to live a good life after retirement, especially if there is more than one person in the household that has been saving their money. Sooner or later the government’s social security plan will fail and what will happen to the generation it fails on is not known but it can’t be good. To keep this depletion from happening think of the plan for each person’s own savings fund where their own social security fund will grow, by keeping social security alive by creating each person an account into which their own funds go, the government can decrease unemployment rates and people will be able to live a good life based on what they made. A person would much rather save up for themselves then to work hard their whole life just to pay for someone else.

Inaudible melodies [7]

Jack Johnson’s “Inaudible Melodies” is a calming, relaxing song that is subtly being harshly critical to the way people live their lives. Johnson feels as if people aren’t paying enough attention to the little things in life; that they are all moving too fast to take in the simple things, the things that really matter. I also believe that Johnson is portraying that people look too much into life by trying to analyze every detail of life and they end up over analyzing the situation and they miss what was really important.
The lyrical quote “Dust of your thinking caps” (which uses metonymy to substitute thinking caps for one’s brain) as well as “Maybe Eisenstein should just relax” is telling me that one should give their mind a break and just let life go with the flow. People could interpret the first quote to be that you need to think more but if one were to read further into the song they would see how Johnson is saying that “Dust of your thinking caps” is how people are living and “Maybe Eisenstein should just relax” is how they should live.
Johnson throws many forms of schemes and tropes into this song. One, as stated above, was using thinking caps in the place of someone’s mind by using metonymy. A few oxymora were used in the song as well, for instance “Silent films are full of sound”, I believe that Johnson is really saying that if one were to look close enough they would find that many things are hidden in the silence. Johnson, as well as any other musician, uses assonance to make the words at the end of the lines in his verses rhyme, which in turn creates more of a flow in the music.
I agree with Jack Johnson’s views in this song. I too feel that people take advantage of the life they are living and instead of taking it one day at a time, they seem to be taking it years at a time. If people we to slow down how they live and live life to the fullest then they would be able to comprehend the ways of life easier, but don’t take the easy way out because, “shortcuts can slow you down,” meaning that there is always going to be a problem if you try to get around doing something the right way, which will cause a delay in your task.

"Jeremy" [6]

A forensic argument of guilt is thrown into the audience's face as Pearl Jam enters their second stanza of thier song "Jeremy". "I clearly remember picking on the boy. Seemed a harmless little [inset various explatives here], ooh but we unleashed a lion...he hit me with a surprise...jaw left...dropped oped wide." The singer is portraying his memories of this boy, Jeremy, who seemed completly harmless but turned and unleashed his pent up anger and frustrationsd from being picked on and rejected. The singer is blaming himself for unleashing this "lion" from the boy which in turn lead to his demise at the end of the video.
In a way Pearl Jam's singer is also blaming the parents of Jeremy for his behavior. Since "Daddy didn't give attention...mommy didn't care." also since "daddy didn't give affection and the boy was something mommy wouldn't wear." the lead singer is pushing more of the blame onto the parents. He's leading to how Jeremy's parents didn't care about him enough to see how tormented e really was.
In the begining, Jeremy was evaluated in a way that made him seem like a mass murderer due to his parent's treatment. Jeremy was also made to be like he was the ruler of his own little world as "King Jeremy the wicked." This gave an insite to Jeremy's mind and was building the audiences' perception of Jeremy so they would be left bewildered at the end of both the song and video. So what do you think? was Jeremy posessed enough by his own world to have killed his classmates AND himself? Or was it just one or the other?

my writtings. 5

I understand this is late, and I'm not sure why I didn't have it written on time, but I figured that it's better to have something rather than let it go unwritten.
To reflect on my own writtings is hard. I enjoy having criticism to help further my writting styles. They help me to actually understand how other people can't really understand how my thoughts work and that i need to explain them a little better. I think that i'm a fairly good writter. My views are usually different than others and i tend to put a twist on someone elses views. I could improve on my explianations as i said before and i could also improve on how i tend to jump and contradict myself. I think that after a few more AP papers i should be able to succesfully write a good consice paper.

intelligece (the expose) [4]

If a person has a lot of knowledge then some would consider them intelligent, although intelligence should be measured by more than just that, it should be measured by how a person can say apply what they know to everyday use. If a person has “book smart” then they know what they are taught in school so they could be able to get further in life education wise, like get into college by making a 31 on their ACT or something of that sort. But there is one thing that will take you much further in life, which to me actually makes you more intelligent. What is it you ask? Common sense. I think that if a person is able to understand the BASIC knowledge in life.

V for Vendetta [2]

The 5th of November, a very important day to the character V, from V for Vendetta, was also a very important day for the London society in this movie. V is trying to get the population of London to realize that their government has been corrupted and instead of helping the population it is eliminating all forms of freedom. V points out reasons why the citizens of London have allowed this terrible fate to befall them and he also provides a solution to the controlling government.

In the first paragraph of V’s speech, he explains why he is interrupting the everyday routine of the people of London and provides a connection to the people by saying, “I do, like many of you…” He also says that he wants to “have a little chat” with the people of London to talk about a day, the 5th of November, that should be remembered, but isn’t.

The second paragraph contains information leading to V's inference of the government having gone completely wrong and has become unjust to its citizens. V talks about how if the population actually listens to the words people say they would notice that the words hold a great amount of power and also “the enunciation of truth.” V is trying to explain to the population that instead of telling the truth the government just tries to fight off any opposition using anything but words.
“Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression,” these are a few of the things V points out that are wrong with the London’s government. As well as pointing out that the government has taken away essential freedoms that every human being should have, such as the freedom to stay out past dark which in the movie the government has taken away. V is also blaming the citizens for letting this happen to London, “if you’re looking for the guilty, you need only look in the mirror.

In the next paragraph V tells the citizens that he understand why they did it, he understands that they were scared of anything that might happen if they didn’t let the government place them under tight restrictions. He gives reasons such as "War. Terror. Disease," to pull emotions from the audience hoping that they will come to the realization that the government is corrupt. Also V described how the High Chancellor promised them order and peace and all he wanted in return was the “silent, obedient consent.”

Finally V describes how he plans to upstage the government and their out-of-control power by planning a publicly announced action outside of the gates of Parliament, in exactly one year, on the 5th of November. V tells about everything he did this 5th of November, like destroying the Old Bailey, and exactly why he did it. He is finally making sense of his whole argument my connecting with the emotions of the audience using his calm voice and undeniable proof of the horrible government. He describes the forgotten 5th of November and why it should be remembered and he asks for the assistance of the people of London to put a stop to the corrupt government of London!

The search for knowledge, no, truth, no, beliefs?? (3)

What is knowledge? What is truth? What exactly is a belief? But more importantly what do these have in common or let alone how are they different? All of these are mind boggling questions that have completely scrambled my brain. And then trying to comprehend everyone else's view on the questions have left me in sort of a fog, i guess you could say.

In my opinion, which was very hard to sort out due to the complex mismatched sentences floating through my head, knowledge, truth, and beliefs all co depend on one another to make sense.

Knowledge, to me, is what you know, or what you think you know, what you believe to be true or what someone has taught you to be true. But points brought up by class mates has led me to think otherwise or more over analyze what i have previously over analysed, and view my own opinion as if i were the other person trying to understand myself. So maybe in a way that you will comprehend, knowledge depends on beliefs and truth, but to really understand this definition you would need to know the others right. So lets talk about those.

Let's go with beliefs next. To me a belief is something in you mind is true. In your opinion as a individual you know in your thoughts that the topic you are thinking about, your view on it, is the right view or opinion and that every one should think like you because you are right. Now after hearing and comprehending what others say I realize that you can actually believe something that isn't true.

Now for the truth. At first I thought that truth was something that had to be a proven fact or opinion, and by proven I mean that it would have to have something substantial and tangible to back up the theory. Now after hearing and listening I realized that in order for something to be true it doesn't necessarily have to be proven. Something that Morgan said helped me come to this realization. She said," If you were to take a lie detector test and you answered something that you believed to be true and the detector doesn't go off then it is the truth." So what I got from that is as long as you believe something strong enough it is true in your mind. I also realize that there can be something that is true but we as people haven't yet found out that they are true.

So now, after further evaluation of my own thoughts, I have realized that your knowledge depends on what you believe to be true. But you can also have things that are true that you don't know about as well as things that you believe but aren't nessecarily true. There are also things that you believe and have been proven true BUT you don't know that they are true, VERY complex stuff.

YAYY ME! (1)

Let’s see. My name is Jordan, I’m 16 and I am very athletic. I’m not tall but I’m not short. I’m not skinny but I’m not fat. I’m not perfect but I’m not completely flawed. I’m really really shy, I’m not outgoing at all! I don’t like to talk much. I have very strong opinions and I’m not easy to persuade to think differently. And I won’t change for ANYONE!

I like most sports except for basketball but baseball is by far my favorite. I play slow pitch softball for the city, I have for ten years, and have made all stars most of the years I’ve played.

After high school, I plan to be either a forensic scientist or a marine biologist. I will most likely go to L.S.U. for my basic studies then attend another college to perfect them.

Some of my favorite things to do are to hang out with my friends, draw, play softball, watching any other sports, and swimming. I hate going shopping!

PEACE!
